Karen
Founder & Doggy Matchmaker
Karen is a full-time doggy matchmaker and the heart behind Small Dog Rescue BC Society. What started in 2011 as a road trip to California with another interested person to investigate the overpopulation of dogs in need of rescue turned into a lifelong mission—finding forever homes for over 700 dogs (and counting!). She believes dogs are more than pets; they’re furry bridges connecting people. Thanks to the amazing community SDRBC has built, the rescue has been able to take on more medical cases that otherwise could have been hopeless.
In addition to finding the perfect forever homes for dogs, Karen actively works on the front lines of rescue—traveling to rural Manitoba to volunteer at spay/neuter clinics, escorting rescue dogs on flights to Saskatoon, and attending animal welfare conferences to stay informed and connected. Her work never stops. It’s exhausting, it’s messy, but it’s her life’s calling—and she wouldn’t trade it for anything!
